Emmerdale bosses are not afraid to kill their favourite characters.

Last week viewers were shocked to say goodbye to Holly Barton who passed away after a heroin overdose and now Emmerdale fans should be prepared to wave farewell to another character – Ashley Thomas.

Emmerdale bosses have recently released a brand new trailer titled Who Will Take Their Last Dance. In the clip we see 11 residents who could potentially die; Aaron Dingle, Robert Sugden, Rhona Goskirk, Paddy Kirk, Pierce Harris, Marlon Dingle, Ashley and Laurel Thomas and James and Emma Barton.

Iain MacLeod – Emmerdale's producer – has hinted that from October 17 there's going to be a massive week: "It's unbelievably exciting.

"There's a couple of soaps firsts in it, in terms of the stories we are telling and the way it is being shot."

We can't wait to see what they have in store!

Recently Emmerdale viewers have seen Ashley come to terms with his dementia but it seems that his current storyline may be his last.

John Middleton – who plays Ashley – has been on the ITV show for 20 years and has hinted that Emmerdale's big week could be when his character meets his end: "It's unusual for me to be involved in any sort of stunts at all.

"It's not normally my gig. But this one I'm heavily involved in," he told Digital Spy.

And even though John is leaving the show after two decades he told The Mirror that he's happy with his exit: "In terms of my end, I couldn't have asked for a better one.

"The show is storming ahead at the moment."

And John's onscreen wife Charlotte Belamy – who plays Laurel – has also revealed that no character on the show is safe and could be killed at any point: "There really are no guarantees – we don't know what will happen but we'd always be told before it happens.

"You'd never open your script and get a shock," she told The Mirror.

Viewers will have to wait to find out whether Ashley or another character who is leaving the show will die during the big week.
