Debbie Dingle and Pete Barton’s wedding was struck by tragedy when a helicopter crashed into the village hall.

Chrissie Sugden’s revenge plan for cheating husband Robert didn’t go quite how she’d expected.

After setting fire to Robert’s car, Chrissie watched in horror as some nearby gas canisters caught alight.

In a horrible twist of fate, the gas canisters exploded into the air and hit the helicopter Pete had hired to whisk him and his new wife off on their honeymoon – sending it crashing into their reception.

While viewers of the ITV soap had been waiting weeks for the shocking moment, the reaction on Twitter was definitely mixed.

One user wrote: “The special effects in Emmerdale tonight were totally sh*t. Sorry Emmerdale, but they were [sic].”

Another blasted: “Seen better special effects on Sharknado than that helicopter crash then [sic].”

“The last 5 minutes of Emmerdale was hilarious. They need to sack the special effects team,” another viewer tweeted.

But not everybody was negative. An impressed viewer wrote: “Well done to @emmerdale yet again. Last night’s episode was amazing and incredible acting and special effects [sic].”

Another praised: Well #Emmerdale you did that very well. Congtats on the set design, effects, cast and crew. OMG! Roll on tomorrow. Well done U lot! [sic].”
