Emmerdale fans praise John Middleton’s ‘outstanding’ portrayal of dementia

It's definitely been an unmissable week on Emmerdale, with each episode knocking it out of the park in terms of showing the soap at it's very best: incredible performances, twists and turns and extremely clever storytelling.

Emmerdale's huge #NoReturn week are all set in a 24 hour time period focusing on different characters. Tonight's first episode focused on Ashley's daughter's christening, where his dementia worsened as the episode developed - leading him to drive off on his own...

Fans took to Twitter in their droves to praise actor John Middleton's - who plays Ashley Thomas - incredible portryal of the disease that affects so many people and their families every single day.

John even teased that the best of the drama is yet to come, as viewers witnessed one of the most fatal car crashes in soap history - leaving so many lives hanging in the balance.

He told The Mirror: "Basically I'm saying Emmerdale is seven times better than 'Star Wars.

"This is definitely the biggest week I've been involved in - it's massive, there are so many different incidents. It's about the most cinematic thing you'll ever have seen in soap."

Viewers were left open mouthed as the events unfolded as Emma Barton pushed James from a bridge during an explosive row and as he crashed onto Ashley Thomas’ car, pure and utter carnage followed. But who is going to die?

Fans were left in tears as perfect couple 'Robron' tumbled down the cliff into a lake...

Many even compared the events to the iconic film 'Final Destination':
