So, who did kill Emma Barton in Emmerdale? At first we were told that she committed suicide but now her death is being treated as a murder investigation

Emmerdale's Emma Barton may have died last month after falling off that bridge but she still seems to be haunting the village.

After Ross Barton was shown burning Emma's belongings viewers have been left wondering what actually happening on the day of her death. The Dales was full of drama when Emma confronted Moira for having an affair with her belated husband (who she killed) James.

A fire soon broke out and then Moira unexpectedly went into labour, after delivering the baby Emma ran into the forest and ended up accidentally shooting her son Finn.

Shortly after his death, Emma went on top of a bridge ready to commit suicide and then viewers saw her fall to her death.

Just as the village started mourning Finn and Emma, the police turned up and revealed that Emma's death is now a murder investigation after it came to light that she had bruises on her body.

Yup! She may be dead but she's still tormenting the village.

Fans have now been left wondering who could be guilty of pushing Emma, she wasn't very popular in the village especially towards the end. We then saw a suspicious looking Ross burning his mother's possessions while a mystery man was watching on…

Hmm.

Now, Emmerdale bosses have confirmed who the seven suspects are and we're not surprised. They've all been acting a little shady recently, so here they are...

Ross Barton

Let's be honest, he's looking like the number one suspect after he was shown burning his mum's belongings. Why else would he have burned her stuff? Could he have pushed her off the bridge? After all, she did kill his dad and brother…

Mark Parr, who plays Ross Barton, has spoken about why his character may have killed his mum: "He was furious when he discovered she had killed his dad so in essence it would have been for revenge.

"Ross never wanted Emma in their lives again. And he always saw through her. He had never forgiven her for walking out on them as young boys or for nearly killing him when he was a baby.

"So killing his dad and his brother would have definitely pushed him to the edge of his tolerance of her."

He went on to add that Ross has had a "dodgy past". Remember when he and Andy Sugden planned to kill each other's brothers and Ross actually did shoot Robert?

Moira Barton

Not only did Emma kill James (who Moira loved and had a child with) but they had a fight in the barn and Emma stole Moira's baby from the hospital. We all know that Moira is pretty tough so could she have killed Emma?

Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira hinted: "Moira is very maternal but also as hard as nuts. She always puts her kids first.

"It is a year since she lost Holly then she has a new baby and within minutes Emma has posed a threat to her new child. Moira would not have tolerated that.

"Moira will protect her kids at any cost and could well have seen Emma off but you will have to wait and see."

Pete Barton

Pete hasn't been dealing well following his mum and brother's death but could it all be an act? He just may be lashing out at everyone because he's responsible for ending his mum's life?

Pete recently found out that his mum killed his dad James and his brother Finn - we reckon that's enough to push anyone to set out for revenge.

Anthony Quilan, who plays Pete, has said: "Finn was his adored younger brother so he would never forgive Emma for killing him and his dad.

"Plus, she had taken his baby so yes he’s got more than enough motive. Also, don’t forget that Pete did leave Ross for dead. So he does have it in him."

Also, Pete has pretty much blamed everyone else for, well, everything but if he just trying to take the spotlight away from himself?

Adam Barton

It would make sense for Adam to be the murderer; Emma has killed a few of his family members, put his mum and newborn brother in danger and we can't forget that he's leaving the show soon…

Adam Thomas, whose character is also named Adam, has explained what's going through the farmers head: "Adam is so protective of his mother he will have taken that really badly.

"Plus, he feels aggrieved that because Emma killed his dad he never got the time to get to know him. Adam was taking it slowly regarding building bridges with his dad but Emma denied him that."

Viewers have noticed that Adam's been acting slightly odd ever since Emma died and even his onscreen wife Victoria has begun doubting him... To make matters worst we'll soon discover that Adam changed his car tyres that day - the big question is why?

Gabby Thomas

Gabby has been pretty suspicious recently, shortly after Emma died she disappeared from the Woolpack, her hands were freezing cold and she suspiciously watched the police collect Emma's belongings from her house…

Gabby is aware that not only did Emma try to confuse her dad Ashley but she also kept Arthur from revealing the truth about that recording.

And yes, we know she is a child BUT that didn't stop EastEnders with the whole Bobby Beale killed his sister Lucy when he was 11-years-old.

Rosie Bentham, who plays the young character, has admitted: "Gabby knew things were getting out of control with Emma and she rang her mum to get help.

"Could Gabby have gone one step too far? She’s acting very guilty and perhaps has something to confess.."

Which brings us onto her mum Laurel...

Laurel Thomas

Laurel was one of the ONLY people to know that Emma was a murderer before it was finally revealed.

Not only did Emma confuse Ashley when he was suffering from dementia, but she also tried everything she possibly could to stop Arthur from revealing the truth that she was on the bridge when James died. So did Laurel decide to bump Emma off?

Viewers all thought she was visiting her sister outside the village but we soon learn that she's been lying and wasn't with her sibling. So what was she doing?

We saw Gabby ask her mum to return home but did Laurel track down Emma instead?

Actress Charlotte Bellamy, said: "Every fibre of Laurel hates what Emma did to Ashley.

"And then, of course, there’s what Emma did to Arthur. Finding out she mentally tortured a 10 year old boy who was totally vulnerable was Laurel’s worst nightmare."

Cain Dingle

Emma stole his new son from the hospital and put his ex-girlfriend Moira's life in danger - so did Cain push Emma? We know that Cain and Moira are no longer together but we reckon they'll always care for each other.

Viewers did see him suspiciously watching the police collect Emma's possessions from her house.

Hmm.

Plus, Jeff Hordley who plays Cain, admitted: "Cain wants to protect Moira. Emma putting Moira in danger could probably be enough motive for Cain to finish her off.

He added: "Although Cain didn’t realise he was the dad, a small part of him probably knew he was. Cain just wanted to protect Moira and find the baby."

Eek!

So there's all the seven Who Killed Emma Barton suspects.

Who Killed Emma Barton - the viewers theories

Emmerdale bosses may have revealed the seven suspects but that hasn't stopped viewers from adding their own theories. One person wrote on Twitter: "Ross pushed his mother after coming across her & Gabby fighting &She was about to push Gabby off & He grabbed Gabby to save her & pushed Emma!"

Someone else commented: "Saw Ross burn Emma's bag, I'm sure he had something to do with Emma's launch off the viaduct."

A third said: "My money is on Adam for Emma's murder in #emmerdale. The actor is leaving after all 🤷🏻♀️"

Another tweeted: "Reckon Gabby pushed Emma, Ross saw and is getting rid of evidence to protect her #Emmerdale"

One more added: "Just caught up on Emmerdale. My money is on Harriet #emmerdale #WhoKilledEmma"

So that's who the viewers think pushed Emma off the bridge but we've also added in a few more residents because you never know what to believe in soapland...

That mystery man

While Ross was burning Emma's belongings we couldn't help but notice a mystery man watching on – is this Emma's murderer?

Faith Dingle

We wouldn't put it past her, after all she's known for quite some time that Emma is a murderer. Was pushing Emma off the bridge the best way to rid her of the village?

James and Finn Barton's ghost

This is soap world so literally anything is possible. Before her death, Emma was visited by her husband and son's death - could they have pushed off her? Seems unlikely but crazier things have happened in soaps…

Emma committed suicide

The police could be wrong and Emma did in fact jump off the bridge.

She did kill two of her family members, tried to kill Faith Dingle with a brick and confused Ashley Thomas who was suffering from dementia after he remembered seeing her on the bridge. Also, she was fighting with Moira in the barn which could be the reason she had bruises.

Harriet Finch

Harriet may be a vicar but from the things Emma has done we reckon it'll push anyone too far. Harriet may be a saint but her boyfriend Cain has just become a dad (again) to Moira's little one.

Emma helped delivery Moira's baby could that have set Harriet off?

That suicide note

Emma Barton

Not only that but we can't forget that suicide note. Emma left it with Moira's baby but when Harriet found him in the church it had disappeared. Did someone read the note and set off to track down Emma and kill her?
