It is with a very heavy heart that we can reveal to you that Emmerdale fan favourite, Andy Sugden, won't be making a return to the Dales any time soon. Rumours about Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) making an imminent comeback have been flying around ever since Lachlan White was sent down for shooting Lawrence and Debbie Dingle returned with news that Andy's daughter, Sarah, is seriously ill.
But despite the rumours we, and fans, were praying were true, it doesn't look like Kelv has any plans to reprise his role. At an exclusive event last week, Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod told us: "There are no plans to do that (bring Andy back) at the moment but I’d have to be an idiot not to have it in the back of my mind as Andy Sugden is such a huge character and Kelvin’s an amazing actor.
"There’s nothing on the table to that effect at present but I never stop thinking about random, surprising things that might happen or (people who may) return so I wouldn’t rule it out." There's still hope that it may happen then.
Ryan Hawley, who plays Andy's brother Robert Sugden, also addressed the rumours: "Kelvin’s very sorely missed here and we used to share a dressing room.
He was great for me, great character to work with an a great actor as well, I really enjoyed working with him so I can only say yes to that really, who knows what’s going to happen."
