In October 2014 Robert returned to Emmerdale, after a six-year absence, with a new family, including fiancée Chrissie White, and a new face…
Now played by Ryan Hawley, Robert’s return set Aaron Livesy [Danny Miller] up some of his most dramatic story lines: starting with robbing Home Farm.
After Robert caught Aaron and Adam Barton [Adam Thomas] trying to steal his car, he made them rob his house to get back at his future father-in-law Lawrence White. It didn’t take Robert long to find out Aaron is gay – and it took him even less time to start their illicit affair.
While leading a confused Aaron on, bad boy Robert continued planning his wedding to Chrissie and playing the perfect family man. But, of course, Aaron wasn’t satisfied with sharing.
In an elaborate plan, Aaron confided in Robert’s sister-in-law Katie about the affair… which sadly resulted in her death.
So consumed by his feelings, Aaron helped to cover-up their roles in Katie’s death – while Robert went off to marry Chrissie. However this is Soapland: nobody gets their happily ever after, and secrets have a nasty habit of coming out at the worst possible time.
Chrissie gave Robert the boot when she discovered his involvement in the robbery, sending him straight back to Aaron. The troubled mechanic declined his lover’s invitation to run away with him – and later had to stop his uncle Cain Dingle from killing Robert.
So now Cain knew about the affair, it was only right that Aaron’s mum Chas and former stepfather found out about his and Robert’s extra-marital activities. Paddy tried to meddle, and Robert tried to kill him.
Then Aaron was determined to get Robert to confess to this, and his part in Katie’s death, but then Robert tried to kill him, too. Of course he couldn’t go through with it.
In September 2015 Robert was shot in Emmerdale’s big Whodunnit? storyline – and poor Aaron was wrongly sent to jail for it. After waking from his coma, Robert managed to get Aaron out of prison – but didn’t get the happy reunion he was hoping for.
This year has already been a big one for the couple, affectionally dubbed Robron by fans. When Chas reunited with Aaron’s dad Gordon, he started to self-harm and ended up in hospital.
Later he shockingly confessed Gordon raped him when he was eight-years-old – and Robert insisted he would stand by him and confessing his love.
But will they get back together? Danny Miller recently told RadioTimes: “I’d definitely like to see them together after all these months of them sneaking around behind people’s backs.
“Hopefully they’ll have a life together. Robert needs to say that he’s gay and give Aaron a guarantee that he wants to be with him.”
And the fans are DESPERATE for them to get together.
