EastEnders fans are gutted that Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell (Samantha Womack and Rita Simons) are leaving the soap AT THE SAME TIME after a decade of award-winning drama.
Both actresses have taken to Twitter to thank fans for their fond farewells.
An insider told Digital Spy: "Rita and Samantha created the iconic Mitchell sisters and with their undeniable chemistry, they immediately created a double act that the viewers fell in love with.
"But when they [show staff] all sat down to work out where to take them, they all felt it was the right time to rest them. When you look back over nearly a decade and realise what they have been through, it seems that most avenues have been exhausted.”
Show bosses have promised an explosive exit for the controversial sisters who seem hell bent on avenging Roxy’s rape.
Will they exert the revenge fans have called for? Or will Dean Wick (Matt Di Angelo) walk free?
Fans of Sean Slater (Rob Kazinsky) may recall he wanted a comeback if Roxy ever left the show. He said: "I want to be in her exit storyline – I’d love to do that."
The insider didn’t share any details on their final storyline, but said: "When Sean proposed his idea to them, Rita jumped at the opportunity to do the storyline. She even stated that the sisters should go out the same way they arrived - together.”
As the popular sisters prepare to depart the square, let’s take a look back at our top three Ronnie and Roxy moments.
Ronnie and Roxy's BIG entrance
“We left Ibiza for this!” What an epic start for the sisters back in 2007 – cowboy hat, ra-ra skirts and all. Ronnie and Roxie arrived in the square straight after Stella’s wedding day suicide, so it’s quite an entrance.
The love triangle
“Nobody tells me what to see or what to do with my life!” Ronnie’s business relationship with Jack quickly turned into more, but Roxy was the one who fell pregnant with Jack’s baby.

Sibling rivalry
“Letting a man pull a fast one on ya! The shame of it!” When Ronnie goes into business with Jack over Roxy, things come to a head at Albert Square with this crazy cat fight! Our heads hurt just watching it back.
