Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) has been hospitalised and diagnosed with postpartum psychosis, following the birth of her baby boy, Arthur.
And, while everyone has been busy concentrating on the young mum’s mental health and her newborn son, Whitney (Shona McGarty) has been growing increasingly concerned about Stacey’s daughter - and her niece - Lily.
So it makes sense that she’s taken action.
Whitney was seen rushing to the Queen Vic doors late at night during the latest episode of the BBC One soap, where she opened them to confront a face from the past.
Thanking the mystery person for coming, Whitney said fervently: “No child should have to see her mum like that.”
We then cut to little Lily lying asleep in her bed - before the camera panned up to show us that the sleeping youngster was being watched over by her Aunty Whitney, and her father, Ryan Malloy.
“It’s okay,” he told her softly. “Daddy’s here.”
That’s right, everyone; Ryan - better known to his most devoted fans as Hot Ryan - is BACK in Albert Square.
Ryan has been on the run ever since he killed Rob Grayson (the man who sexually exploited Whitney) in a dramatic pier fight.
However we got a glimpse of him back in 2014, when we saw him watching Stacey, Whitney, and Lily from afar in Walford Park.
He left without saying a word, leaving viewers clamouring for him to return permanently.
At the time, however, Neil McDermott refused to confirm whether or not Ryan would ever come back to Albert Square.
Instead, he took to Twitter to reference Cilla Black's programme Surprise Surprise as he messaged EastEnders producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins.
Since then, we haven’t seen hide nor hair of him… but it seems as if the public’s demands for Ryan’s return have been heard.
But what can we expect from Ryan’s comeback?
An insider told us exclusively: “Ryan makes a brief return to the Square but it’s not plain sailing.
“He’s going to find himself in some difficult situations and it’s going to cause a lot of drama for Whitney!
“She reached out to him for the sake of Lily and didn’t really think about the consequences.”
Yikes.
EastEnders returns Monday night on BBC1 at 8pm. We. Can’t. Wait!
