This involves bringing back some of the soap's most loved characters.

It was confirmed last week that Peggy Mitchell [Barbara Windsor] is making a comeback next year, and she could be bringing someone with her.

Grant Mitchell, played by Ross Kemp, could be reunited with mum Peggy and brother Phil for the milestone.

A source told the Daily Star: "The 30th anniversary is going to be one of the biggest events ever in the soap.

"With Barbara having already agreed to return the next name on Dom's [Dominic Treadwell-Collins, executive producer] list is Ross.

"He would love nothing more than to bring Peggy back to Albert Square with both her boys. It would be a huge moment in EastEnders' history."

Phil, Grant and Peggy haven't been on the soap at the same time since 2006 and, now Phil is married to his brother's first wife Sharon, the reunion could be explosive.

Speaking earlier this year, Ross said he wouldn't rule out a return. "Never say never – I don't think you should ever do that."

A spokesperson for EastEnders said: "We are not going to comment on any speculation regarding the plans for our 30th anniversary at this stage. All we will say is that it will be a week that EastEnders viewers will not want to miss."
