Zainab Masood (Nina Wadia) hasn’t been seen on our screens since 2013, following the breakdown of her marriage with Masood.
However, while we can understand why she’s cut all ties with her husband, we can’t figure out why she hasn’t returned to visit her children, Tamwar (Himesh Patel) or Shabnam (Rakhee Thakrar).
As Shabnam prepares to marry her fiancé Kush Kazemi, it soon becomes horribly apparent that Zainab will not be appearing for her daughter’s big day.
And, after a conversation with Carmel Kazemi, Masood decides to reveal the truth to Tamwar about why Zainab didn't come to the wedding - or bother to visit Shabnam after she lost her child.
Rest assured that, while we can’t reveal the secret just yet, fans will be left shocked by the bombshell.
Masood also reveals that Zainab wants to cut all ties with her family - and that she wants to take her baby son, Kamil, back.
But, as the pair share a heart-to-heart, Tamwar urges his father to stand his ground and demand to Zainab that Kamil will stay in Albert Square with them.
How will the fiery matriarch take the news? Will she return to Walford to retrieve her son?
Well, Nina Wadia hinted earlier this year that her character could be returning to EastEnders.
Speaking to Inside Soap, she said: "I never know if I am going to be asked but I'll never say never. Zainab was broken when she left.
"The attractive thing about Zainab was always that she was painfully annoying. If she ever did go back, there is no way she will have mellowed."
These scenes air on Monday 9 November on BBC One.
