She's been in a coma ever since Nick Cotton arranged for her to be involved in a dramatic car accident on New Year's Day.

And EastEnders fans have been desperately waiting to see if Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) will wake up from her coma and discover she is now the proud mum to a baby boy, Matthew, who was delivered by emergency C-section.

But, as the weeks have gone by, it has become more and more unlikely that Walford's resident femme fatale will be getting her very own happy ever after.

Medics have already informed the Mitchell family that they will try to bring Ronnie round one last time - and that, if it doesn't work, there is nothing more they can do for her.

So, when the dreaded day arrives next week, her devoted sister Roxy (Rita Simons) and husband Charlie (Declan Bennett) find it difficult to control their emotions… or their nerves.

But, as Ronnie's ventilator is finally switched off, will she be able to breathe on her own?

Well, with Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) expected to return to the show soon, many have speculated that Ronnie will sadly pass away - and that her aunt will be back in Walford for her funeral.

However, judging by Dominic Treadwell-Collins' previous comments, it seems as if there may be more to Ronnie's story arc.

Speaking of upcoming story lines, he said: "Ronnie will have a big story.

"The question with Ronnie is 'Is she her father’s daughter?' And I think with Ronnie we are going to see how somebody becomes a villain.

"I keep talking about Darth Vader. The making of a villain. Not a soap bitch, but a villain."

We wonder if Ronnie may awaken from her coma - but as a villainous, more twisted version of herself?

Only time will tell, we guess… although, if she DOES wind up awake and well, it doesn't bode too well for Nick Cotton.

EastEnders airs these scenes on Tuesday, February 17 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
