Paul Coker’s death came as quite the shock to the residents of Walford, so it goes without saying that the funeral is going to be emotional.

In scenes set to air next month, Les (Roger Sloman) and Pam Coker (Lin Blakley) will lay their grandson to rest and say their last goodbyes after he was killed in a homophobic attack.

Problems have been mounting for the pair as they struggle to come to terms with what happened, after details of his death have been revealed.

Les has been finding it hard to support his wife over the shocking death of their beloved Paul (Jonny Labey), and chooses to confide in Claudette Hubbard and Patrick Trueman about it.

Meanwhile Pam also turns to her sister Mim when she arrives in town for the funeral as she feels increasingly distant from Paul. It’s then that she’s finally convinced to pay her respects to her grandson after originally refusing to look at his body.

However, in true EastEnders style, it only seems to be getting worse for the couple as the day of the funeral arrives.

After leading the funeral procession, Les chooses to deal with the day in the only way he knows how and takes a businesslike approach to the burial - much to Pam’s dismay.

Earlier this year it was announced that the pair would be leaving the show following the storyline, but we’re yet to see how it plays out.

A BBC spokesperson said, "We can confirm that Roger and Lin will be leaving EastEnders later this year.

"They have been a pleasure to work with and we wish them all the best for the future.”

It won’t be the same without them.

**The funeral will air on 8 September. EastEnders continues on Monday at 8pm on BBC1. **
