Max Branning, as EastEnders fans will already know, is currently languishing in prison.
The Albert Square favourite was found guilty of the murder of his young lover, Lucy Beale (Hetti Bywater) - despite the fact that it was actually Bobby who bumped off his sister.
But, in one of the most iconic EastEnders scenes to date, Max didn’t take his verdict lying down.
Yup, he punched a copper and did a runner.
Unfortunately, he didn’t head for sunnier climes; instead, he marched right back into Albert Square to have it out with Jane Beale (Laurie Brett), was promptly re-arrested, and carted off to jail.
And there he has remained, as Jake Wood takes a break from the set and spends some quality time with his family.
But now, speaking to Kugan Cassius on his iFL TV YouTube channel, Jake has revealed that Max is definitely coming back in September this year.
Yay!
However he added that he DOES have a lot of catching up to do…
"I left in July and I haven't watched an episode since I left. I needed a good break. I've done nine years without a break.
"I went up and saw them and said I was knackered and wanted a bit of time out. They've given me this summer off as well because I want to be with the kids and then it's September I'm pencilled in to go back.
"When I'm having this break now, I'm not watching it at all so I don't know who's doing what."
At the time Jake’s break was announced, the show’s executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, said: “When I returned to EastEnders both Jake and I agreed that Max has been through so much over the past 9 years that we would give both him and Jake a break when the opportunity arose.
“That opportunity has come and it is the perfect time to send Max Branning out with a bang that will send ripples through the Square for the rest of the year until Jake returns.”
Talking about his decision to take a break, Jake said: “I have been at EastEnders for 9 years and I feel the time is right to give Max a break.
“But it won’t be for too long as I shall be back next year to see Max face another chapter of drama.”
While nothing is yet known about Max’s return, it doesn’t take Sherlock to figure out that it’ll involve another big storyline for the Beale family.
Will Bobby’s crimes finally be exposed? And, if so, what else will the “shifty little mug” (Danny Dyer’s words, not ours!) do before he gets caught?
And, with Abi supposedly pregnant, how will Max react to the fact that he is set to become a grandfather for the second time?
Either way, we can’t wait to have Max Branning back in Walford where he belongs - how about you?
