When we last saw Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) and her husband Alfie back in May earlier this year, they were heading off to start a new life for themselves and their children in Spain.

Clutching a lottery ticket in their hands, they looked happy, carefree, and ready for the future… although Alfie was harbouring a dark secret; he’d just been diagnosed with a possible brain tumour.

So, when Kat arrives back in Albert Square on Christmas Day WITHOUT Alfie and the kids in tow, it soon starts alarm bells ringing.

Kat wastes no time in paying a visit to Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner), following the birth of her new baby, telling her that Alfie, Tommy, Bert and Ernie are still in Spain.

However it isn’t too long before a furious Alfie, with the kids in tow, turns up in Walford - and he’s determined to find out why his wife ran out on them.

With viewers warned that Alfie is going to make a mammoth decision about his marriage, it seems as if the Moons still have a long way to go before they ever find that happily-ever-after we’ve been hoping for.

Speaking recently about his plans for the couple, soap boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins said: "Christmas in Walford is always the perfect time for uncomfortable family reunions – and Kat and Alfie’s brief return will lead tears, laughter… and a mountain of secrets being unearthed for the Slater family.

"As Kat and Alfie hold on to each other and their marriage, the discovery that Kat has a secret son will lead to seismic waves through the Slaters – and ultimately lead to the Moons realising that the answers to so many questions lie across the sea in Ireland."

Cue the hugely anticipated spin-off series.

We wonder if Kat’s secret child could be linked to Stacey’s mystery key, which is due to be solved over the festive period?

Perhaps this proves theorists correct in thinking that Stacey’s wayward brother, Sean Slater, is actually Kat’s little boy?

Guess we’ll just have to keep on watching.
