That’s right, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) are about to enjoy a steamy kiss together.

Who could have seen this coming?

After both heading to The Albert to drown their sorrows, Denise finds herself in the arms of the only person willing to listen to her problems – Phil Mitchell.

This sudden night of passion comes after Denise struggles to come to terms with her daughter Libby (Belinda Owusu)’s pregnancy, and lashes at those close to her.

Libby has decided not to keep her baby, leaving Denise devastated as she will no longer become a grandmother.

And let’s not forget that Jordan tried to break Lucas (Don Gilet) out of prison not too long ago, either.

With no one to talk to about her troubles, Denise heads to The Albert where an already-drunk Phil is sat at the other end of the bar.

Phil has had his own family troubles as of late, mostly to do with his alcoholism, but also with Jay (Jamie Borthwick)’s girlfriend Linzi (Amy-Leigh Hickman) turning out to be 14.

And so, as the pair are both at a low point, the best way to fix things is obviously to get drunk and get a bit of attention, leaving both parties embarrassed the next morning.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Diane revealed what happened when she found out about the upcoming scene: “When I discussed this with our wise producer Dominic [Treadwell-Collins], and he told me what I was going to play, I screamed. I got up and ran around his office, screaming!

“I was thinking to myself, 'how could Denise let herself end up with him the way he is when Sharon and Shirley have turned him down?',” she added.

This episode airs on EastEnders tonight, 7:30pm on BBC One.
