Watching Peggy Mitchell bow out of EastEnders was never going to be easy.
Just as we were (not really) getting used to not having the Mitchell matriarch around – we’ve got to emotionally prepare ourselves to say our final goodbyes.
And it’s going to be a right East End affair, obviously.
Monday’s episode of EastEnders is probably going to be the most sombre yet, as the entire square lines the streets to say their goodbyes to Peggy (Barbara Windsor).
The former Queen Vic landlady is sent off in a black horse-drawn carriage, led by a very dapper Billy Mitchell.
Peggy’s children Sam (Danniella Westbrook) and Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) will also be returning to Albert Square to wave off their beloved mum.
Peggy committed suicide six weeks ago, in a final bid to be in control of her own destiny, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer – a decision that left her eldest son Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) distraught.
Tissues at the ready!
Peggy’s funeral will be shown Monday 4 July on BBC One at 8pm.
