Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner)’s ongoing postpartum psychosis storyline is set to leave her terrified of Martin Fowler in dramatic scenes set to air next week.
The troubled young mum, convinced Martin was sent by the devil to hurt baby Arthur, seeks refuge with Shabnam (Rakhee Thakrar) and Kush (Davood Ghadami).
As the couple find themselves growing more and more disturbed by Stacey’s behaviour, they call a frantic Martin and let him know about her whereabouts.
When he arrives, Martin encourages a fearful and erratic Stacey to look him in the eye - and, for one blissful moment, the young mum is almost herself again.
So, when Stacey asks if she is ill, Martin is finally able to convince her that the hospital is the only place she can go with Arthur that is safe.
As Stacey packs for the hospital, Martin becomes more and more concerned that Arthur might not be able to stay with Stacey, but he eventually decides that getting Stacey to the hospital is the only option.
But will Stacey go through with Martin’s plan? And will she ever forgive him if she is separated from her beloved baby?
Shabnam, who knows that her husband is Arthur’s real father, has so far kept her silence over Kush and Stacey’s affair.
But it’s only a matter of time before Martin learns that he isn’t the baby’s dad.
And James Bye, who plays Martin, recently revealed that things are set to “explode” when the truth finally comes out.
Teasing the big reveal, James Bye said to Inside Soap: "I think it's going to be an implode or explode situation.
“He'll either jump off a bridge or go crazy with Kush and Stacey.
“If it was me, I wouldn't be able to get my head around it. I've got kids myself so it's not something I ever want to think about!”
However, despite the emotional fallout, executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has given fans a glimmer of hope.
Yup, he’s only gone and hinted that Martin and Stacey WILL get their happy-ever-after… eventually.
"There is joy and there's always hope…” he said.
“It's going to be a very long and twisty road.”
We hope this means that the couple will find a way to work through their troubles and come out stronger than ever; after all, there’s no point denying that Stacey and Martin are one of the cutest couples to ever appear in EastEnders!
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One / BBC One HD
