Christian Clarke will return next month, as his sister Jane prepares to marry Ian Beale for the second time.
But, of course, things aren't as simple as that: Christian will also be present when we finally find out who killed Ian's daughter Lucy.
A source told the Daily Star: "Jane couldn't get married without Christian by her side.
"They've always been there for each other so to not have him at her wedding to Ian would've just been odd. Christian is a much-loved character and it's been great that John's been able to return again.
"We last saw him at Lucy's funeral so at least his return is for a happy occasion this time, although with the big reveal of Lucy's killer and Dot being arrested for murder there will be lots of drama surrounding the wedding."
An EastEnders spokesperson confirmed the news, adding: "We can confirm that John Partridge is returning as Christian for a week of special episodes to mark our 30th anniversary."
Joining John in returning next month is legend Barbara Windsor [Peggy Mitchell] and Jo Joyner [Tanya Cross].
Earlier this month Ross Kemp [Grant Mitchell] confirmed he would not be returning, despite reports claiming otherwise.
