EastEnders fans, it looks as if Ronnie and Vincent have only gone and murdered Charlie Cotton.

We thought we’d seen the last of Charlie Cotton when he hopped aboard that train - minus baby Matthew - and headed out of Walford.

But, last night, Ronnie’s estranged husband made a surprise reappearance…

And it seems as if it may very well be his FINAL appearance, too.

Yup, the tense storyline twist saw Charlie (Declan Bennett) return in an attempt to threaten his wife Ronnie (Samantha Womack), warning that he would reveal she is a murderer if she didn't hand Matthew over to him.

But, as EastEnders viewers are all too aware, you should never, ever, EVER mess with Veronica Mitchell.

While the femme fatale appeared to crumble under the pressure of Charlie's demands, she quickly disappeared to have a word with her old flame Vincent Hubbard (Richard Blackwood).

The duo soon appeared at Dot’s house to have their final showdown with Charlie - but viewers weren’t shown what happened.

It quickly became clear that something TERRIBLE had happened, however, when his wallet was found abandoned in a bin out on the street.

Throw in the fact that Vincent suddenly changed his (presumably bloodstained) clothes, and Ronnie’s cagey behaviour when Roxy confronted her over Charlie’s whereabouts, and there’s suddenly a lot of reasons to feel VERY suspicious about all of this.

Did Ronnie and Vincent murder Charlie? Or did they simply scare him off?

As always, it looks like fans will be kept guessing for a while - but we do know for a fact that Declan Bennett has left the soap.

An EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy: "We can confirm that Declan Bennett will be leaving EastEnders. We wish him all the best for the future."

EastEnders continues on Friday (September 25) at 8pm on BBC One.
