Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll be well aware of the fact that Bobby Beale bumped off his big sister, Lucy.

With a music box, in the living room, for all those Cluedo sleuths out there.

But, while his dad Ian (Adam Woodyatt) and doting step mum Jane (Laurie Brett) have vowed to do everything they can to over up the little boy’s crimes, it seems as if his dark secret is about to come out…

Tonight’s episode sees journalist Beth Kennedy arrive on the Beales’ doorstep.

However Ian, who remembers her from the press conference following the murder of his daughter Lucy, is extremely unhappy by the London Telegraph writer’s appearance.

“You’re scum,” he snarls at her, turning away to storm back into the house.

But it seems as if Beth has a major bombshell to drop on the family.

"So you're not interested in the new lead, then?" she asks. "We've heard that the police have a witness for Lucy's murder…"

Oh yes.

Ian, obviously, is left visibly shaken by the news that someone out there saw what happened… but does this mean that Bobby’s secret is out?

Or does it mean that someone else - someone completely innocent, we’d like to add - will be going down for Lucy’s murder?

After all, we do know that Jake Wood, who plays the late Lucy’s lover, Max Branning, is set to leave the soap for a year-long break this summer.

The show’s executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, said: “When I returned to EastEnders both Jake and I agreed that Max has been through so much over the past 9 years that we would give both him and Jake a break when the opportunity arose.

“That opportunity has come and it is the perfect time to send Max Branning out with a bang that will send ripples through the Square for the rest of the year until Jake returns.”

Maybe he’ll be taking an extended holiday at Her Majesty’s expense, eh?

This episode airs on BBC One, Tuesday 14th July, at 7.30pm.
