WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

She’s one of Albert Square’s longest serving residents, but Sharon Rickman will be left fighting for her life this week following a brutal attack by two masked intruders.

And the attack comes shortly after Sharon, good friends with Ian Beale, has been seen doing her own investigation into Lucy Beale's shock murder - could they be connected?

The EastEnders matriarch, played by Leticia Dean, is knocked unconscious following a mixed night at The Albert – the cocktail bar she co-owns with Phil Mitchell.

When barman Johnny Carter heads upstairs to grab his coat after locking up, two balaclava-clad men force their way into the premises.

Violently assaulting Sharon, they leave Phil's girlfriend battered and bleeding on the floor - while Johnny, who has heard everything, hides in terror upstairs.

But, while many may think these men are just burglars chancing their luck, some have suggested that the attack could be linked to the murder of Lucy Beale - especially as Sharon and Phil have uncovered evidence which suggests that Jake Stone, currently being held by police, did NOT commit the crime.

However, with viewers likely to have to wait until February 2015 to find out who is responsible for Lucy's murder, we imagine we won't be finding out any crucial details in tonight's explosive episode.
