Meet the Ahmeds who will join Masood when he returns to Walford....

We were very excited to hear the news that our favourite postie, Masood, played by Nitin Ganatra, would be making his return to Walford later this year, and now it’s been confirmed that he’ll be bringing a few feisty relatives with him for good measure. Hurray!

Say hello to the Ahmeds - Auntie Mariam and Uncle Arshad - who descend into Albert Square soon after Mas in the New Year and immediately get embroiled in the local capers.

Speaking about their arrival, a spokesperson said, “The Ahmeds' arrival in Walford is certainly not the hassle free move they were expecting and they immediately find themselves caught up in the middle of other people’s drama.”

No change there then! Since when has anyone arrived and found themselves living a nice, easy-going existence. This is Walford…come on people!

However the pair, who are foster parents and need a bigger house to cope with their ever- expanding brood, seem determined to make the best of the situation and are soon settling into Masood’s house which has plenty of spare rooms.

Arshad, who is described as, “jovial and mischevious”, and is played by Casualty and Dr Who actor, Madhav Sharma, is soon getting stuck in with the community. Meanwhile his no-nonsense but kind- spirited wife, played by The Kumars actress, Indira Joshi, is also keen to get her feet under the table.

Speaking about her new role, Indira said, “I’m over the moon to be joining EastEnders and to be part of the Ahmed family. I’m really looking forward to working with Madhav and Nitin as well as the rest of the cast”

Meanwhile show boss, John Yorke, is delighted to have the new arrivals on board and hinted that there will be plenty more Ahmed family members winging their way soon.

He said, “We’ve always known that Masood came from a big family, and the time has now come to reveal a few more of them, of which Mariam and Arshad are just the first.”

He added, “We’re really excited to bring in the next generation of the family, for some incredibly challenging, fun and exciting stories ahead.”
