Another character is leaving Walford soon.
Riley Carter Millington made history when he joined EastEnders as the first transgender male actor to play a transgender character in a UK soap.
Initially only signing a six-month contract, Riley has spent the past year on the BBC soap as Kyle Slater – Stacey Fowler’s brother.
But now sadly, Kyle’s time on the Square is up.
A source told the Metro.co.uk: “Kyle’s storylines on the show came to a natural end for now.
“We can confirm Riley is leaving EastEnders and wish him all the best for the future.”
Does that mean we could potentially see the character return?
Although there’s no confirmation on Kyle’s exit storyline, the door is expected to be left open for his return in the future.
Especially as he knows Steven Beale was behind the robbery at the restaurant...
Kyle was first introduced when Stacey was trying to work out what the key her brother Sean had left her was for.
And after getting off to a bad start, Stacey and Kyle have now become very close, with Kyle moving in to her flat and landing himself a job as a chef at Beale’s.
Kyle is Riley’s first on screen role, and at 22 has won acclaim for his performances from fans since his EastEnders debut.
Riley was also recently nominated for the Inspirational Role Model of the Year accolade at the European Diversity Awards and for the Newcomer of the Year prize at the TV Choice Awards.
He told the Metro.co.uk: “When I landed a 6 month contract at EastEnders it was a dream come true. For that to be extended to a year was something I never expected.
“However, as the time comes for Kyle to depart Walford I am looking forward to taking on new roles and who knows, Kyle may find his way back to Walford one day.”
We’ll be sad to see Riley leave the soap, won’t you?
EastEnders continues tonight at 7:30pm on BBC One.
