EastEnders fans were led to believe Peter Beale had been killed by his brother Steven but it seems that may not be the case.
The character, previously played by actor Ben Hardy, had travelled to New Zealand and it was thought he was dead when he did not return to Walford with fellow Albert Square residents Steven Beale and Lauren Branning.
But Lauren has now planned to send a video of her and Peter’s baby saying "dada" for the first time to him, sparking speculation he is in fact alive.
The news should go down well with viewers of the soap as many hoped the popular character would make a comeback despite his apparent death.
Actor Ben, who played Peter, quit the BBC show in a bid to pursue a Hollywood career and he landed the role of Angel in the movie X-Men: Apocalypse.
But, if Ben is busy with other projects in America, this shouldn’t stop the character of Peter returning - he has been portrayed by a number of different actors in the past.
Ben replaced Thomas Law in 2013 and Peter has been played by a total of six actors in the past.
‘Enders cast member Aaron Sidwell, who plays Steven Beale, is hopeful Ben will make a return as he thinks it will make for a dramatic storyline.
He recently told Inside Soap: "I would like to see Ben Hardy reprise his role of Peter and to see a showdown between him and Steven for Lauren."
Actress Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning, recently said the truth about what happened to Peter would be revealed.
She teased that her character may have to decide between Peter and Steven, telling the Daily Star Online: "Steven’s the safe bet."
