EastEnders: Lucy Beale’s killer to find out ’30 minutes’ before it’s revealed live

EastEnders bosses aren’t taking any chances when it comes to keeping the identity of Lucy Beale’s killer a secret.

The Whodunnit? will finally be solved this month, almost a year after Lucy was murdered on Good Friday 2014, during a live episode.

But the killer won’t actually know they did it until 30 minutes before viewers, according to Jake Wood.

Jake, who plays Max Branning in the soap, said: “I don’t think we’ll find out until the night. I guess whoever did it will find out an hour or half an hour before so I have no idea.”

Could Max's affair with Lucy have turned nasty?

As viewers will know, Max and his daughters Lauren [Jacqueline Jossa] and Abi [Lorna Fitzgerald] are major suspects in the case.

Speaking on the Afternoon show on BBC Radio 2, Jake continued: “There’s a secret as well between [Max] and his daughter Abi but I don’t know what that secret is so hopefully I’ll find out in the next couple of weeks.

During an episode screened last year, a terrified Abi seemed relieved when Max split from investigating officer Emmer Summerhayes, telling her dad: “She can’t find out what you’ve done.”

Max replied: “Whatever happened on Good Friday stays between us – and only us. We’ll just have to be careful, won’t we.”

Jake admitted he's honoured to be involved with the live episodes

This, and the fact Jacqueline has already filmed her final scenes ahead of her maternity leave, suggests the Brannings are definitely involved in the murder in someway.

Jake and the rest of the cast are currently rehearsing for live week, which will celebrate the soap’s 30th anniversary, and the Strictly star admitted he feels ‘honoured’ to be involved.

“I’ve been there nine years, I love the show and there’s not a day goes by when I’m not thankful to be in it, especially now. It’s a real honour to be involved in the show for the 30th anniversary.”
