As much as we wish our favourite EastEnders characters could all stick around on Albert Square forever, sadly sometimes they leave Walford for pastures new...or they just get brutally killed off – and it was revealed earlier this year that Lola Pearce (played by Danielle Harold) is the next to face an onscreen death.

Lola, who was first introduced in 2011 and returned in 2019 after four years away, will be diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in upcoming scenes just weeks after reuniting with the “love of her life” Jay Brown (played by Jamie Borthwick).

It’s been revealed that Jay will care for Lola right up until her death and viewers have predicted that a wedding could be on the cards before we say goodbye to her for good. It’s even claimed that the couple get married as soon as Christmas.

Taking to Twitter to share the rumours, one fan wrote, “Word on the street is that there MIGHT be an Xmas wedding for Jola… 👀👰🏼‍♀️🤵🏼🎄❤️ #EastEnders.”

They added, “Hands up if the Lola & Jay story is going to shatter your heart into millions of tiny pieces? 🙋‍♀️ Deathbed wedding ahead... #EastEnders.”

Another commented, “I could see her dying in his arms after the wedding too. That'd be very EastEnders to do that on Christmas Day.”

One more said, “Yeah a rushed wedding before she dies seems inevitable.”

After much speculation, it was confirmed earlier this month that Lola would be diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. Speaking about the storyline, actress Danielle Harold said, “It means so much to be trusted with a storyline like this – one that’s close to many people’s hearts.

“Sadly many of our viewers will be able to relate to Lola’s story and it’s been heartbreaking to speak to the families affected by brain tumours and hear their stories. They’ve been so amazing in sharing their experiences with me, and I’m so lucky to have them. I wouldn’t be able to do this storyline without their support."
