WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
Kathy Beale is back in Walford - and she’s not happy.
Viewers had been lead to believe that the character, played by actress Gillian Taylforth, had died in a car crash in South Africa after moving out there with her son Ben back in 2000.
But, being as this is EastEnders, nobody is ever truly dead until you see their body on screen
Yup, just like Dirty Den and Nasty nick before her, Phil’s old flame - and Ian’s mum - popped back up in London to meet with Mr Mitchell.
And it seems as if he’s the one who’s been keeping her dead.
She told Phil pitifully: "I don't want to go back” - but he seemed extremely unsympathetic to her plight.
Why has he told everyone she’s dead?
Talking about her return to EastEnders, Gillian said: “When Dominic approached me with his plan, I was so shocked I got into my car and burst into tears!
“‘Kathy’ has always been so close to my heart and it’s absolutely wonderful to be returning to the show and reprising the role.”
Adam Woodyatt, who plays Gillian’s on screen son Ian, added: “I’m thrilled, I couldn’t be happier. I’ve finally got my mum back! I’ve been keeping this secret for so long and now I just can’t wait to work with her again.”
We wonder if she will be able to reunite with her son, who recently discovered that wife Jane was involved in the murder of his daughter?
We do hope so - it’d be amazing to have Kathy back for good!
