It's the week we've all been waiting for - and the Tuesday night's live episode of EastEnders definitely didn't disappoint.
And, while we were all told we wouldn't find out who killed Lucy Beale until Thursday 19th February, it seemed as if BBC producers had decided to treat us to an early reveal when Max Branning (Jake Wood) rounded on his daughter Abi.
"[Lauren] knows you killed Lucy," he growled, leaving Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) looking more than a little startled.
And then the big DOOF-DOOFs came and that was that, really.
Within seconds, everyone was on Twitter - with plenty of people saying they KNEW that Abi had been the killer all along.
Too bad it was probably a red herring, eh?
Think about it; Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) had, in the same episode, left an extra-special message for Jane Beale to find on the eve of her wedding.
It read: "I know what happened to Lucy. She was killed at home. Lauren"
A simple 'congratulations on your special day' usually does the trick, Lauren, but no matter; the fact that she'd written this was a crucial clue.
Because a) it meant that Lucy died at home (as we previously revealed WEEKS ago, just as an FYI), and b) it seemed to suggest she thought a Beale was responsible.
Not her sister Abi, as dad Max had assumed.
Which means one of three things:
-
Lauren is incorrect in all her sleuthing, and has wrongly accused a Beale of murdering their own kin when it was, in fact, her own sister that bumped Lucy off.
-
Abi had a fight with Lucy on the night she died and THINKS she killed her… but just left her a sitting duck for someone else to come along and send her six feet under.
-
Max incorrectly assumed the killer was Abi, based on DC Summerhayes' burbled last words (not to mention his daughter's shifty behaviour!).
Hmm - let's assume number one is wrong for now, shall we?
After all, we trust Lauren's detective work; she had access to all of DC Summerhayes's files and saw the very same photographs that led the late police officer to identifying Lucy's killer.
She saw that the Beales' landline was noted down, alongside the acronym 'S.O.C' - which means, yes, 'Scene Of Crime' - and the numbers 0221 (the time of death, we reckon).
She also would have seen that Jane's car was not on Albert Square that night, despite the fact she claimed to have been at Masood's all evening.
And she might have noticed that Jane would NOT have been able to see the Beale house from Masood's window - despite the fact that Lucy's stepmother claimed to have seen Lauren walking up to the house before turning around.
Intriguing, huh?
Throw in Jane's horrified expression when she found Lauren's card and you have a full house; we think a Beale did it, not a Branning.
But whether that means it was Ian, Jane, Peter, or Cindy remains to be seen.
From a creative point of view, there's no way that EastEnders bosses will miss out on the chance to bamboozle their audiences with a few more twists and turns before the killer is revealed.
That's why they're not even telling the KILLER they did it until just 30 minutes before the live episode.
As BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson put it: "After a captivating year of drama in 2014, EastEnders will top this in February 2015 with the most ambitious anniversary any soap has attempted.
"Live week allows us to keep loads of secrets from the cast, crew and the audience until the very last minute.
"With shocking reveals and unguessable twists it's going to be a week that will change Albert Square forever."
Therefore Abi? Almost DEFINITELY a red herring, put out to throw us bloodhounds off the scent.
We guess we'll have to wait for Thursday 19th February and that flashback episode to find out for sure - but that's our theory, anyway.
