Actress Lindsey Coulson, who plays Eastenders’ Carol Jackson, is quitting the soap for the third time.

The 54-year-old has revealed that the "time is right to move on".

Lindsey first appeared on the soap 22 years ago, but quit after 4 years.

She then returned in 1999 before leaving again shortly after, only to appear back in the square in 2010.

Lindsey told the Daily Star of her exit: "I've had a fantastic time playing the formiddable Carol Jackson and although I miss everything about EastEnders, I feel the time is right to move on."

Carol’s story lines have included losing her beloved son Billy to alcohol poisoning as well as battling breast cancer.

Eastenders boss Dominic Treadwill-Collins said: "The door will always be open for Lindsey to return to EastEnders. EastEnders has always been so lucky to have an actress of Lindsey's calibre to return to EastEnders."
