Dan Whiston, who is dancing with Hayley Tamaddon in this year's series of Dancing On ice, is the show's ultimate champion - he's lifted the trophy three times during the series and, if things play out well, he and Hayley could do so for a second time together. Especially as they made it to the top of the leader board this weekend with their amazing Charleston routine to Will.i.am’s Bang Bang!

Now, in an exclusive column with Closer Online, everyone's favourite professional skater has revealed everything you wanted to know about the show, from backstage gossip to easy-to-follow toning exercises.

WEEK 4: THE CHARLESTON

We absolutely loved performing our Charleston last night - even though I was feeling sick and Hayley had a huge bruise on her arm. The physic team really helped us out and, to be honest, you just don't have time to be ill on this show.

We were running on adrenaline, so we forgot that we were sick, we forgot that we had injuries - all that went out the window and we just went out there to have a good time. And we love skating together, so we always have fun.

Yes, Ray Quinn knocked us off the top of the leader board - but we were still chuffed!

Ray Quinn's routine was absolutely amazing, so they deserved their scores - but we were just really happy to be at the top of the leader board, even if it only lasted 5 seconds. And this has been our best routine so far, so we're going in the right direction… I think it can only get better from here.

I was really proud of Hayley, she pulled it out of the bag last night - and she definitely needed that moment, to be top of the leader board.

I think she's starting to deal with her nerves a lot better now… she's less nervous each week. And we really felt supported by the public - our Twitter feeds are going crazy with support and it was just great to hear that they love what we're doing.

Now that Todd Carty's gone, there's no weak link

A lot of people are saying that this is the first time audiences have felt the impact of the 'All Stars' effect of this series - and I agree. There was no weak link last night - Todd has gone, so there's no bumper… and everyone is so, so strong. The standard is so big that you will never get a predictable show, it will always be more hardcore.

There were tears backstage when Zaraah Abrahams was booted off

I was so shocked to see Zaraah and Kyran in the bottom two but, at the end of the day, people get marked on what they do by the judges and then the public will make the final decision. It's all about who people warm too, who entertains them most - nobody wants to be bored, so the viewers deserve a show, they deserve to be entertained.

Zaraah wasn't one of the weakest links; in fact, she was one of the strongest - and, technically, she was getting better and better. There were a lot of tears backstage when she left.

And I think every week there will be tears now, because people have known each other for years and have a real emotional attachment. We don't want to see anyone go, because we're losing a friend as well as a competitor.

Contrary to many other talent shows, the Dancing On Ice contestants all get on really well away from the rink - and are all rooting for each other to succeed!

I think Sam Attwater was inspired by our Jai Ho!

I think Sam was a little inspired by mine and Hayley's infamous Jai Ho routine - I'm sure they'll have watched it while figuring out their routine, and I know Sam loved it, but they definitely gave their version a little twist to make it their own. I really enjoyed what they did.

Ray Quinn's flamenco has given us something to strive towards

I really enjoyed Ray's flamenco last night; I love the way he and Maria, one of my best friends, work on the ice, how they brought that flamenco style to the show. And it's nice that myself and Hayley's routine was so very different to theirs. One of us has to win, one of us has to get to the top of the leader board and, as I've said, they definitely deserved it. They've definitely given us something to keep striving towards.

Want a dancer's body? Work on your legs - it only takes four minutes!

If you've been following my column, you'll already be a fan of my four-minute abs and bingo wing busting exercises. This week, we're working down the body to the legs - and this four-minute quad burn will definitely get them into shape!

If you do this every other day, you'll be well on your way to gorgeous toned legs.

Looking to build up your stamina? Try the House of Fitness

Spurts of exertion, like interval training, are one of the best ways to build up your stamina. Try running on the spot for a minute, walking on the spot for a minute, running, walking for six minutes… it will really help as a cardio exercise.

Need an extra workout? As your stamina builds, lift your knees higher each time - to waist height, ideally, and tap your hands.

REMEMBER: Building fitness is like building a house - without a foundation, your house will fall down. You need to start off with your foundations, build slowly and don't over-exert yourself.

If you feel like you're getting better, which you will over time, you'll get an exhilarating rush. People join the gym, go hell for leather on the first day, they ache like mad and can't get out of bed the next day - then they'll never go again.

Don't be one of these people. You need to slowly build up your foundations, properly, and work up your fitness levels with care.

Hayley and Dan made sure to celebrate the Coronation Street star's birthday in style

Working with Torville and Dean is like working with David Beckham

Working with Torville and Dean is like, for a football fan, working with David Beckham. I've grown up idolising them for years and now we don't just work together, but we're good friends now as well.

Their routine last night was so emotional, it gave us such a good idea of how far they've come… and they're so good to work with. They're really hands on with all the contestants, they design all the routines - they're brilliant.

This weekend you can expect a fight on the ice!

This week we're going head-to-head in a duel on the ice with another couple - all four of us on the ice at the same time! I think it will bring out a whole new side to the competition.

It's hard to say who I'd want to duel against - anyone that gets paired with Ray will probably be like "oh no" but, at the end of the day, everyone has different qualities. So all you can do is go out there and do the best you can do.

It'll be a true fight on ice - and, of course, whoever loses the duel will be up for the public vote. No one deserves to go but that's the show, that's the game. All we can do is entertain!

Look out for Dan Whiston's column next Monday - and don't forget to tune in and vote for him and Hayley in this weekend's episode of Dancing On Ice 2014!
