Pat Phelan - played by Connor McIntyre - is one of the most evil villains to ever tread the Weatherfield cobbles.
Viewers will recall that he blackmailed Anna Windass into having sex with him, in a desperate bid to save her son, Gary (Mikey North), and partner, Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies), from his clutches.
After sleeping together, the twisted bully went on to tease and laugh at Anna, and the strain of the incident eventually caused the breakdown of her and Owen’s relationship.
Pat Phelan later moved to Dubai, allowing Anna a chance at happiness at last.
But now, just as it seems as if Anna has found love with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), a penniless and vengeful Pat is set to return…
And he’s intent on destroying her life.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Debbie Rush - who plays the loveable Anna Windass - explained: "Phelan wants to ruin everything for Anna.
“Somewhere along the line, he's decided that this is his mission in life.”
Speaking about why Pat has it in for her character, Debbie continued: "Maybe it's because his life is in ruins after his wife found out what he did.
“Or maybe it's because Anna rejected him. Phelan’s one of those arrogant men who thinks everyone should fancy him and when they don’t he stamps them out of his way.”
When Pat begins working with Kevin at the garage, Anna is left in turmoil - particularly when the two men seemingly become friends.
As it becomes clear that Pat is using Kevin as a way to get to Anna, she is left with a choice; should she tell Kevin about her past with Pat, or should she attempt to keep it a secret?
Debbie explains: “Anna will not tell Kevin that she was forced into having sex with Phelan.
“So the fact that she’s keeping this big secret from Kevin is eating her up and could mean another relationship ruined."
We’d like to believe that Kevin, who has had his fair share of psychotic exes (remember Jenny Bradley?), would be understanding of Anna’s plight.
But, with Pat Phelan in the picture, we can only imagine that his true nature will come out eventually… and that it will spell danger for Anna Windass and her loved ones.
