Following the violent attack on Nina Lucas and Seb Franklin last week which left them both in the hospital,Kelly Neelan is arrested under suspicion of being involved.
While Asha Alahan reels that people thinks her friends are involved and Kelly begs Corey Brent to tell the truth, Corey's dad Stefan has other ideas.
In the hospital, Abi Franklin bombards Nina with questions about the night of the attack but realising she doesn't remember, Nina becomes emotional.
This storyline was inspired by the murder of Sophie Lancaster in Bacup, Lancashire in 2007. Soap bosses have worked closely on the storyline with The Sophie Lancaster Foundation which was set up by Sophie’s mum Sylvia in the wake of her daughter’s death, to raise awareness and understanding of subcultures.
Sylvia said, "I know first-hand the abuse, harassment and violence that alternative people suffer.
“Hate crime is usually directed at already stigmatised and minority groups and Sophie was assaulted three times before that final, sustained and brutal attack that took her life - but she never reported the earlier assaults.
“Coronation Street covering this issue means such a huge amount to me. We want alternative people to know that they shouldn't be putting up with this prejudice and intolerance, and they should report it."
