Poor old Carla Connor isn’t having the best time of things at the moment, but we really hoped that she and Nick Tilsley would get their happily ever after following their engagement.

Sadly, as always, Christmas is NOT a time to be merry in Weatherfield.

It all kicks off when Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley), currently in prison, receives a mysterious email from Carla’s brother, Rob (Marc Baylis).

Johnny, horrified by what he reads, decides he needs to tell Carla the truth - and drops a bombshell that will change her life forever.

Yup, you guessed it; he’s her dad.

Left reeling from the discovery, and sickened by the fact her brother has been blackmailing Johnny, Carla soon turns to alcohol… and quickly spirals into self-destruct mode.

Alison King, who plays Carla, explained: "Robert turns up at the casino to drown his sorrows over the situation with Tracy.

“Together they hit a winning streak and celebrate with champagne, and as they say, one thing leads to another.

“It is typical Carla pressing the self-destruct button. She feels worthless so she makes herself live up to that label."

But, the morning after the illicit one night stand, Carla wakes up knowing that she’s made a terrible mistake… and is prepared to do anything to stop Nick finding out.

Alison added: "She realises immediately she has made a really stupid mistake and she knows what she stands to lose. She tells Robert that nobody must find out.

“She is engaged to the best man in the world and she is terrified of losing him.

"She confides in Michelle, but makes it clear she is going to try and pretend it never happened and get on with her life.

“Johnny's secret has blown everything apart for her and she may never recover from the consequences."

Coronation Street will air these scenes in the week commencing Monday, December 28 on ITV.
