Steve McDonald has had an eventful few months. Not only did he discover that he is fathering a child with Leanne Battersby after a one night stand, but he is also expecting a baby with his wife, Michelle.

Things only got worse for Steve when his father, Jim, arrived on the cobbles and informed him that he had a genetic illness known as Myotonic Distrophy – but thankfully for Steve, he was tested and got the all clear.

Despite the good news it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the couple.

Not only does Steve have his indiscretions, Michelle has been growing ever closer to Robert Preston.

The Bistro owner (who previously dated Tracy Barlow, who Steve shares a child with) decides to confess his love for Michelle.

However, before Michelle can respond she is rushed to hospital with severe stomach pains.

Once at the hospital, the doctors take a scan and sadly inform Michelle that although she in labour, the baby is too underdeveloped to survive.

The tragic storyline mirrors Kym Marsh’s own stillbirth experience.

Talking to OK magazine about the loss of her son in 2009, Kym said: “Losing a child is something that never leaves you so to revisit those feelings was challenging.

"Coronation Street ensured that I had a counsellor to go to after filming the scenes, but for me the best tonic after a hugely emotional day was to go home to my kids and be reminded of how lucky I am to have them."
