It was reported at the weekend that show favourite Alison King – who plays Carla Connor – is leaving after nine years.

Now Crag, better known as cab driver Lloyd Mullaney, is off too – and even an attractive pay rise wasn't enough to keep him.

A source told The Sun: "This is a massive blow for Corrie. Craig first announced he was thinking of leaving weeks ago but bosses tried to change his mind with a huge pay rise.

"Craig considered it but at the end of the day the riches just weren't enough."

Bosses are allegedly concerned that Crag and Alison's exits might encourage other stars to leave.

The insider continued: "These two departures might not be the last and that could be a problem for Corrie. Soaps can't afford to lose their stars."

Craig said of his exit: "I've had a fantastic ten years and am sad to leave. But I feel I owe it to my colleagues on Red Dwarf to join them in filming the new series at the end of the year."
