Steve McDonald has had an eventful few months. Not only did he discover that he is fathering a child with Leanne Battersby after a one night stand, but he is also expecting a baby with his wife, Michelle.
And now, things are about to get even worse for Steve who receives some very shocking news about his health – and it could potentially have a catastrophic impact on his family, too.
Steve gets a blast from the past when his dad, Jim, gets in contact. The reason behind the sudden fatherly affection? Jim has been diagnosed with a genetic illness known as Myotonic Distrophy, which is very serious news for Steve who is expecting two children, and already has 12-year-old daughter, Amy, with the one and only Tracey Barlow.
Talking to Digital Spy, actor Simon Gregson who plays Steve said: “It’s typical Steve – he’s burying his head in the sand and hoping it will all go away.
“He needs to know if he has this condition but he chooses not to [take the test] – he doesn’t want to ... as I think he’s frightened of what they might tell him.”
However, Simon reveals that Steve becomes so overwhelmed when he sees the scan of his baby with Michelle that he gets emotional and opens up to his wife.
Soon after, things take a turn for the worst when Leanne and Nick find out about it before Steve has a chance to tell them – and they demand answers.
“They want him to take the test … and the fact he’s been summoned there so they can tell him what to do causes Steve to lose it,” Simon reveals.
Michelle then attempts to gently talk Steve into getting the test, but a furious Leanne is determined to make sure Tracey finds out so that the Rovers landlord is under even more pressure to do as she demands.
Could this tricky situation spell the end for Michelle and Steve if Leanne decides to call him out? Or will Steve manage to wriggle out of this one?
