Sally Webster

Corrie fans have been watching Sally’s prison storyline in outrage ever since she was framed by con artist Duncan Radfield, but she’s set to be released in the new year

Sally was jailed for fraud, money laundering abd bribery and sentenced to four years behind bars after becoming involved with skilled conman Duncan.

Back when she was working as Mayor of Weatherfield, Sally was moved by Duncan’s story about his wife dying from a stroke, after Sally’s own mum died from one in the 90’s.

Duncan had applied for a council fund to set up a charity, which Sally then learned to be fake – but not before she had handed over £40,000 of council cash, and Duncan had done a runner.

Police were eventually able to catch up with Duncan but, practised in his trade, he managed to convince them that it had all been Sally’s idea, that he had been wooed by her authority and was innocent.

Duncan’s conniving worked, and it was Sally who ended up behind bars. While she’s been inside, her husband Tim has been torn about whether he believes her story or not and grown close to Gina, Sally’s sister, who’s been stirring the pot.

Meanwhile, Sally was forced to sack her lawyer Paula after she caught her in bed with daughter Sophie, but rehired her for the appeal.

And now, after a turbulent six months, Sally is finally set to be released from prison as ITV confirm that Duncan’s fraud will be exposed – after his wife, May, turns up alive and well in Costa Rica over Christmas.

And despite playing away, it’s Tim who eventually unearths the truth, learning that Duncan had used to council money to send her there.

An ITV source said, “Tim rumbles Duncan’s plan and manages to clear Sally’s name.”

“Corrie’s writers seem to have read up on [real life conman who faked his own death] John Darwin and written a similar story for the soap."
