“I’ve been tossing around a few ideas in my head about who will be back,” Kate told The Daily Star.

She added: “I think Corrie has a strong cast but also a strong history. And it’s nice to mix and match”.

Kate was brought in to replace Corrie’s producer Stuart Blackburn, in the hope of boosting ratings, as viewing figures have dropped by around 4 million in the last three years.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the writers are interested in doing and matching their ideas with mine,” she explained.

“Often you find yourselves thinking from the same place. You think along similar lines. And I’m sure that’s true when it comes to bringing back popular characters.”

The former Emmerdale boss also expressed that she has been watching archive footage recently and thought the first episode of the popular soap was “really interesting”.

Earlier in the year Kate ended rumours that she was going to axe certain characters once she moved to the soap.

“When I read that I laughed. I think the show has a great cast,” she told the Daily Star.

"I know a lot of them already and nobody has cause to be afraid. It’s going to be fine.”

There is no indication as to which characters Kate is planning on bringing back to the ITV show, but fans could be hoping for former residents such as Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear), Reg Holdsworth (Ken Morely) and Curly Watts (Kevin Kennedy).

Who do you think would be a good character to bring back to the cobbles?
