Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Coronation Street just hasn’t been the same since Peter Barlow left the cobbles.

Which is why we’re VERY excited to reveal that Stuart Blackburn (aka the big boss at Corrie) has dropped a big old hint that the character, played by Chris Gascoyne, will return.

He told Inside Soap: “We all want Peter Barlow back!

“It is leaping ahead but I think he will return.”

He added, somewhat hopefully: “Chris has taken time out before and then come back here.

“I would hope in the not-too-distant future that he will be phoning up and saying he is ready to do another stint.”

Chris Gascoyne bowed out of the soap in November 2014 after Peter was found innocent of the murder of Tina McIntyre.

However he returned earlier this year for stepmother Deirdre’s funeral - where fans saw him bump into his ex-wife, Carla Connor.

The very same Carla Connor that will be leaving the cobbles next year, as Alison King bows out of the soap.

Speaking about her exit, Stuart promised that there is still a LOT of juicy story lines lined up for Carla over the next few months.

He said: "We haven't nailed her exit yet - it's not until next year - but the pieces are in place. There is masses more story to come for Carla, and the door will be left open for actress Alison King.

"She has said she wants to take some time out, but her plan is to come back and we hope she will."

Maybe she and Chris might want to time their returns so they arrive at the same time - it’d be good to see those kids back together, wouldn’t it?
