It’s been a very long time since Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) had a happy storyline in Coronation Street.
We watched her relationship with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) fall apart after his affair with Carla Connor (Alison King), not to mention her and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price)’s marriage break down over his long-term brain damage.
When she finally found love again with personal trainer, Kal Nazir (Jimi Mistry), he was tragically killed on the night of their engagement.
And, following his shock death, Leanne fell victim to parental abuse at the hands of her stepson Simon (Alex Bain).
These events have, unsurprisingly, left her a shadow of her former self.
So, when we heard that she was set to fall pregnant in an upcoming Corrie storyline, you can forgive us for hoping that it signalled a happier chapter in Leanne’s life.
We should be so lucky, eh?
According to The Sun, Leanne will embark on a shocking one night stand with STEVE MCDONALD after he splits from his wife Michelle (Kym Marsh).
The Rovers Return landlord will later come to regret their night of passion, choosing to reunite with Michelle.
But, while Leanne and Steve are keen to forget their fling, it seems as if they’re going to be left a VERY permanent reminder in the form of a baby.
Eep!
Instead of supporting Leanne, a desperate Steve (Simon Gregson) does everything he can to hide the pregnancy from his wife.
He even tries to pressure her into terminating the pregnancy.
A source told the newspaper: "Steve will be left in a tricky situation when he finds out that Leanne is pregnant - and refuses to have an abortion."
Doctors had previously told Leanne that she would find it difficult to conceive, as one of her fallopian tubes was damaged when she fell down a set of stairs and suffered a miscarriage in 2011.
So it’s understandable that Leanne will ignore Steve’s request and keep her baby.
Coronation Street bosses have yet to comment on the rumoured storyline, but it’s safe to say that this baby bombshell could be the final nail in the coffin that is Steve and Michelle’s marriage.
