Young Bethany Platt, who has fallen victim to cruel taunts from bullies calling her 'fat', will put her life on the line in Coronation Street as she collapses during an intense treadmill workout after turning to diet pills to help her loose weight.
While Gary Windass shows Craig Tinker around the gym, Bethany collapses after pushing her body way too far. He rushes to her aid and she soon regains consciouness, telling him not to worry and that she's perfectly ok.
However, Gary's not so sure remains sceptical about Bethany's health.
Has Bethany gone too far? Or will Gary give her the help she needs in regards to what she thinks is a 'weight problem'?
Eager to bring the risks of extreme dieting to the forefront, Coronation Street producer Kate Oates has revealed that there is lots more to come for Bethany.
She said: “Because of the bullying, Bethany is a teenage girl feeling out of control of her life, which is something a lot of people can relate to. But Bethany’s way of managing that is to take diet pills and over exercise.”
“This is going to be a slow-burn storyline that we’re going to play quite gently over a fair period of time. We want to play it truthfully because it’s something that people are going through in real life.”
Can you or your children relate to Bethany's storyline? Are you glad Coronation Street are dealing with issues that everyone can easily relate to?
