When Faye (Ellie Leach) becomes more and more concerned about her weight following teasing at school, it's Coronation Street's Craig who she turns to.
Aware of the rumours about Faye from the party in the summer, the schoolboy knows there's a possibility she could be pregnant - and gently encourages her to take a test.
"Her life is about to change dramatically and she is struggling to get her head round it"
When it's revealed that the 12-year-old really IS expecting a baby, Craig vows to stand by her side and help her deal with the life-changing news.
Speaking with Digital Spy, Colson Smith, who plays Craig, explains: "Faye is so scared because she is so young and she has slept with a boy.
"Her life is about to change dramatically and she is struggling to get her head round it.
"Craig wants her to tell her mum because he knows that if you're in trouble you should go to an adult. Faye just can't see that. She just wants it to go away, but Craig knows it is not that easy."
While the ITV soap have vowed to deal with the issue sensitively, they have come under fire for the controversial storyline.
Norman Wells, speaking on behalf of the Family Education Trust, said:
"In spite of the fact that teenage pregnancy rates in the UK are high compared with many other parts of Western Europe, they are still thankfully rare - and pregnancies in 12 year-old girls are much, much rarer still.
"Scriptwriters and production companies need to take great care that in their desperation to attract high viewer ratings they do not normalise behaviour that is both illegal and damaging to impressionable children."
