Coronation Street’s Anne Kirkbride tragically died after a short battle with breast cancer earlier this year.
Ever since then, the Corrie team have been working hard to create the perfect farewell for her on-screen persona, Deirdre Barlow, whom she played for forty years in the soap.
Until now, it has been claimed that Deirdre had been staying with her friend, Bev Unwin.
Now, the street is planning to welcome her back with a good old-fashioned knees up at the Rovers Return.
Show sources explained: “Ken will be seen writing a card addressed to ‘My darling wife’ before everyone gathers at the Rovers, ready to welcome Deirdre home.
“But just before, Bev turns up and reveals that Deirdre has died.”
Bev will go on to explain that Deirdre died "peacefully" in her garden after packing her bags to return to Weatherfield.
And, as Deirdre's friends and family sob, Bev will present her wedding ring to husband Ken (Bill Roache) in a final poignant gesture.
In the pub, Bev and Liz break the news to everyone that Deirdre has passed away - and, back at home, Tracy and Ken break down.
But, while they should be finding support in each other, a wedge is set to be driven between the pair when Ken learns that Deirdre stayed away from Coronation Street because of Tracy’s affair with Liz McDonald’s boyfriend.
Speaking to The Mirror, Bill Roache - who plays Ken - explains: "When he hears the real reason she stayed away he gets very angry, because he has been deprived of the last few weeks and months of life with the person he loves, all because Tracy misbehaved.
"Ken has this double emotion to deal with - tremendous grief at the loss of Deirdre, and colossal anger at Tracy."
Coronation Street is on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on ITV.
