Coronation Street spoilers: Popular character CONFIRMED for 2016 return

Coronation Street is bidding goodbye to some much-loved and very familiar faces this year.

And, with the likes of Carla Connor (Alison King) and Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), set to leave the cobbles in the not-so-distant future, fans have been left feeling a little downhearted about their favourite soap.

Thankfully, though, we have some good news.

Guess who’s coming back to Weatherfield this spring?

That’s right; Simon Gregson - better known to loyal Corrie viewers as Steve McDonald - has confirmed that his character WILL be back at the Rovers Return pub very, very soon.

"I’m pretty sure I’m starting back filming next month but I won’t be back on screen until April/May," he told OK! Magazine.

His absence from the ITV1 soap has been explained by his character Steve McDonald’s visit to see his twin brother Andy in Spain.

The 41-year-old actor, who recently welcomed a baby with his wife Emma, has been taking some time off from Coronation Street due to health concerns.

However, despite now having his hands full with a new baby boy, Simon has said that he’s more than ready to get back to the show.

He said: “I’ve missed the banter and the playing about. It’s not a job, is it? When you’re just playing the fool and being daft, it’s just good fun.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to being the old Steve McDonald.”

We can’t wait to have Steve back on the cobbles - how about you?
