Corrie viewers have watched in horror as, for months, Leanne has been physically abused by her stepson, Simon.
But, after watching him lash out on the football pitch and break the leg of another player, Leanne finally feels compelled to take action.
"Leanne realises that things have gone too far and if he is starting to lash out at other people. She needs to do something about it," actress Jane Danson explained.
"It's one thing her having to deal with his anger issues, but she knows that if things are going to start happening at school, then there is a whole world of problems ahead for him unless she nips it in the bud now."
When she meets with police officers about Simon, however, Leanne finds the courage to tell them about his behaviour on the football pitch - as well as his vicious attacks on her over the past few months.
There is no time for Leanne to tell Simon what she has done, leaving him positively terrified when the police come knocking at the door.
And, despite finally admitting that he has issues with his temper, Simon refuses to speak to Leanne when he leaves the station.
Instead, he asks his grandfather, Ken (Bill Roache), if he can go and live with him.
Are things about to get worse before they get better?
Speaking about what viewers can expect from Corrie next, Jane told Unreality TV that she hoped this would mark the beginning of the end for the shocking parental abuse plot.
She said: “I would like to hope this is the beginning of the final chapter of this story.
“It has been such a difficult time for them both and maybe it needed to get to this stage for them to turn it around and get their relationship back on track.
“It is a shock for them both.”
