Kym Marsh impressed Coronation Street bosses who have extended her contract

Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has had some pretty fantastic news - her contract has been extended until Summer 2018!

Yep, Michelle Connor will still be on the Street - even though she has literally just found out that her husband Steve had a baby with her friend Leanne. And now that they're getting divorced, viewers have been wondering whether Kym will stick around.

It's all very dramatic.

Thankfully, she will be!

Speaking to The Sun's Dan Wooton, a source said: "The bosses are delighted with Kym."

"Over the past year she has been handed some really challenging storylines, and she has handled them all brilliantly. The miscarriage scenes really blew them away. Many viewers got in touch to say how moved they were.

"Michelle has become a real Street favourite and everyone is pleased that Kym has signed for another year."

The scenes were indeed heartbreaking, and viewers took to Twitter in their droves to praise Kym's performance.

The storyline was made even more poignant by the fact that Kym herself suffered a late miscarriage only a few years ago.

In 2009, Kym lost baby Archie with then-partner Jamie Lomas at 21 weeks. She said she drew on her own memories to perform the scenes.

Speaking to OK! Magazine in January, Kym said: "I thought long and hard before agreeing to take on the challenge of this storyline. It is obviously a cause very close to my heart having lost my beautiful Archie at 21 weeks and 5 days.

"In the end I felt it was an important story to tell in order to raise awareness of something which affects thousands of women every year. I have had to go to some very dark places in my mind whilst filming these heartbreaking scenes but my family, friends and colleagues have been incredible.

"Losing a child is something that never leaves you so to revisit those feelings as Michelle has been challenging. The best tonic after a hugely emotional day was to go home to my kids and be reminded of how lucky I am to have them.

"I am very proud of what we have done with this storyline and I hope it helps raise awareness and helps people to talk about their own experiences."

And it transpires that in their bitter divorce battle that follows the revelation that Steve fathered Leanne's child, Kym will fight Steve for the Rovers. Things could get ugly!
