Coronation Street's Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, has hinted that Creepy Nathan will not get away with selling her in a sex ring
Coronation Street has tackled some pretty heavy storylines lately.
Not only did poor Michelle Connor endure a heartbreaking late miscarriage - not forgetting that Kym Marsh, who plays her, also suffered the same devastating thing herself in real life.
But now viewers have been faced with the terrible Bethany Platt/Creepy Nathan storyline, which sees the teenager forced into a sex ring by her older boyfriend.
We've watched in horror from behind cushions and through our fingers as Creepy Nathan Curtis, played by Chris Harper, has slowly but surely groomed 16-year-old Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon.
We all knew there was something dodgy about the guy from his first appearance last Christmas - remember the way he leered over Bethany?! - but we could never have guessed quite how awful the situation would become.
After a couple of months of wondering over what his game really was, things all started coming to a head a few weeks ago when we saw Nathan essentially "promise" Bethany to an equally creepy friend named Neil.
Unfortunately, things will get a whole lot worse for Bethany before they get better, as we found out last week that Bethany will horrifically be raped by Neil.
Viewers have written in to Ofcom, saying that the scenes should not be shown pre-watershed, but Lucy and Chris explained on Lorraine in February that it is exactly what should be shown before 9pm.
Lucy, 21, passionately said: "It's so important that we do it at this time, because we're targeting people who watch Coronation Street that are quite young. They're the people that we want to target so it's so important that it's on at that time."
Chris added: "The really key thing is to start the conversation - whether it's your son or your daughter and you've got concerns, or whether you yourself have been abused in the past."
However - Corrie fans will be relieved to hear that Lucy has revealed that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for her character.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Lucy explained that it is likely Nathan will have to go to court for his actions.
She said: "I want to see him in prison. It's important that we show people that if it's happening to them, Nathan does go to prison. Otherwise they'll think: 'There isn't any point in me telling anyone that this is happening to me, because nothing will come of it'."
She carefully added: "We don't know what happens, but I'd like there to be a court case. I think there should be."
Fingers crossed you're right, Lucy!
