Coronation Street fans have been left seething after last night’s troubling episode saw gaslighting Geoff Metcalfe lock his wife Yasmeen Nazir in a box – and then convince her it was her own fault.
The emotiona abuse storyline has been gaining momentum over recent months, with Geoff alienating Yasmeen from her friends, taking control of her finances and even convincing her (and everyone else) that she has a drinking problem.
But last night’s episode crossed a line for viewers, who were appalled to see Geoff lock Yasmeen in his magicians assistant box – under the guise of rehearsing a trick – before heading to the pub.
Yasmeen was left sobbing and screaming Geoff’s name before passing out, only to be found by Geoff’s son Tim hours later.
Yasmeen covered for Geoff when he lied to Tim and told him it was an accident – but viewers weren’t having it.

The term gaslighting first came to the mainstream in 2018, when domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid called out Love Island’s Adam Collard forpsychologically abusive behaviourtoward Rosie Williams.
“On the latest series of Love Island, there are clear warning signs in Adam’s behaviour,” Ghose said. “In a relationship, a partner questioning your memory of events, trivialising your thoughts or feelings, and turning things around to blame you can be part of a pattern of gaslighting and emotional abuse,” said chief executive Katie Ghose.
