Coronation Street Coronavirus

A Coronation Street star has reportedly pulled out of filming scenes for the soap after returning home from holiday and deciding to self-isolate over Coronavirus fears.

The unnamed star isn’t showing any symptoms of the virus but has decided to take precautionary measures, just to be safe.

He reportedly has the full support of ITV, despite scriptwriters rushing to amend upcoming episodes to accommodate his absence.

Latest figures show there have been 116 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 in the UK, with 25 in London and a further ten in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

The Government and the NHS are advising people who’ve been exposed to the virus or are experiencing symptoms to “self-quarantine” by staying home from work, and to call the NHS helpline on 111.

And Corrie isn’t the only show on the box to be affected by the virus.

Earlier this week it was reported that The Only Way is Essex had cancelled filming of their summer special in Spain, instead seeking alternative locations.

“Everyone's talking about it - the cast members who were due to go have been told it's not happening now and they're rethinking plans,” a source told The Sun.

"The last thing anyone would want is for them to be in danger and they're following travel advice when filming."

And last week, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden came under fire for giving “irresponsible” advice about the flu, taking to Twitter to say, “The current mortality rate for the Corona virus is 2% which is roughly equivalent to a common flu virus. The 24 hr incessant mainstream media has a lot to answer for creating such hysteria.

"Wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your nose eyes and ears.”

Followers flocked to admonish her, with one writing, “Pretty irresponsible tweet. I'm a medic on the front line.”

ITV told us, "The Coronation Street cast member referred to in reports this morning has been advised by health professionals that they are not required to self isolate, following this advice they will be returning to work when they are next scheduled to film.

"The initial personal decision was taken as a precautionary measure."
