Alison King, aka Coronation Street favourite Carla Connor, is CONFIRMED to be returning to the soap around Christmas.

Producer of Coronation Street Kate Oates has revealed the return of fan fave Carla, who departed last year after nine years in the soap.

Kate addressed the rumours that Alison would return to the soap that began swirling back in May - saying that back then, it wasn't true.

She revealed in an interview with Radio Times that Alison had only signed the contract to return recently.

Kate said: "It's been rumoured that Carla's coming back. But it was never true. Even the latest indications of it. Ali has only just signed her contract and she'll be back around Christmas."

Kate, who has been the producer of Corrie since early last year, went on to reveal that she believed it was time to give Carla a different path.

She said: "It's time to break new ground with Carla. I didn't want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction, recovery, followed by more self-destruction.

"What we'll have instead are these two strong Connor women – Carla and Michelle – on opposing sides and in conflict for a change. It'll be a refreshing dynamic for us to see."

We wonder she'll make of her ex-sister-in-law Maria's affair with her half-brother Aidan, too...

Or maybe she'll come back in JUST as Eva's enacting her revenge on him?

WHO KNOWS.

Kate, who was previously producer at Emmerdale, expressed her guilt at having killed off a lot of female characters at the soap.

She said: "On Emmerdale, I was uncomfortably aware that I'd been responsible for the deaths of a number of women characters and I didn't want to repeat that.

"I did feel like I was punishing the women. I wanted to see the characters face trauma, but to come out the other end. There had to be journeys of triumph and strength."

Well, we're liking what she's done with the soap so far - we look forward to seeing what comes next!
